In the song "Liability," by Lorde develops the central conflict by saying she 's a liability and the cause of the relationship ending to show her experience of fame and relationships as a celebrity. Lorde also shows that throughout the song, not everyone has a perfect life with money and fame. Lorde uses a metaphor to describe the challenges of fame. For example, she stated, "He made the big mistake of dancing in my storm, Says it was poison" (Lorde).The word storm is important because it makes you think about a tornado, rain, and damage. Dancing in my storm is representing how challenging their relationship was and how difficult she was. "Says it was poison" shows how he regrets being in her life. People told her that she is a liability but denies it, she later realizes that she is one and is causing damage. For instance, "They say, You 're a little much for me, You 're a liability"(Lorde).When the song uses the word "they", it means its from her boyfriend 's perspective about how difficult it is to handle Lorde because he is not use to all the attention. In addition, Lorde sings, "I understand, I 'm a liability" (Lorde).This is where Lorde admits that she is a liability for causing damage in the relationship. Another thing to realize is, liability is brought up again to show the damage she has caused for having paparazzi following her and her boyfriend, being on social media, and can be overwhelming for guy out of the ordinary. Furthermore, in the chorus, she uses a metaphor to describe the challenges of fame. In fact, she uses, "Get you wild, make you leave," (Lorde). This demonstrates that as she is a celebrity, she is constantly getting pushed away by the fact that she has a boyfriend to love and make him her first priority but that is not the case. Lorde 's boyfriend is not getting all the attention he intended.
