When I think of theology, I instantly want to break the word down. I have a science background and understand unfamiliar words by looking at their parts. For me, theology is theo- or God and -ology or the study of. From this, I understand theology to be the study of God. Studying God is most familiar to me as something that members of the historical clergy had the freedom to indulge in all the time. Being allowed to spend unlimited time pursuing the knowledge of God sounds like a fantasy. I find the more I learn about God and his Word, the more there is to learn. I would love to have uninterrupted time to study God. I can picture monks and hermits of the early church secluding themselves from the world, so that they had time to only pursue their relationship with the Father. I have been fortunate enough to get some study time in as I pursue the Father. I have read the Bible more than once and continue to try to find time to be in the Word on a daily basis. Over the last 22 years, since becoming a believer, I have done many Bible studies. I have participated in Kay Arthur Inductive Bible studies and Beth Moore studies among others. Since being at Liberty University, I have taken Contemporary Worldviews and Survey of Biblical Literature. Both of these classes have helped me to understand God’s word in a new and more meaningful way. I have learned new ways to look at familiar passages and find Scriptures that I have read many times have new meanings as I look at them with the skills I have learned in these classes. I am currently pursuing a degree in history from Liberty University. I love to study the time periods that surround the events in the Bible. I can get a clearer understanding of what the biblical authors were trying to get the people to understand as I learn what was happening in their lives at that
