Every day turning points occur. Some are life changing in both positive and negative ways, and countries can be changed based on these turning points. Jackie Robinson from “I Never Had It Made” Melba Beals from “Warriors Don’t Cry” and Feng Ru from “The Father of Chinese Aviation” all faced turning points. These turning points changed their lives and in doing so changed their countries for the better. Jackie Robinson changed Major League Baseball for all African Americans.
Turning points can challenge your life at times. It can make your life better or worse. This idea comes up in Hatchet, a fiction by Gary Paulsen, Guts, a non-fiction by Gary Paulsen, and Island of the Blue dolphins, a fiction by scott o’dell. These stories all have turning points that affect them in the same way, doing so, they change their lives and things around them.

Turning Points Dan Dunne is a 25 year-old, good looking yet scruffy, White, male teacher. He is never portrayed as a “hunk” or a “stud” but people are drawn to him instantly. His intelligence, ideologies and charm pull you in to his character to be able to sympathize with his dark side of addiction. The first opportunity we have to see into this world is shortly after learning that his ex has gotten married. Dunne can’t come to terms that his ex was able to quit her addiction and he is still in the same place as he was years before.
Can turning points in a single person's life change a whole society? A turning point can be described as a life-changing event that teaches so much about themselves or the world around them. People who endured a life-changing event can respond positively or negatively. Jackie Robinson, Melba Pattillo Beals, Feng Ru faced life-changing experiences that altered both their lives and their countries.
Each of these have a part in making reality known, rather than what you initially believe. Going through any of these processes can have a life changing effect. Not only could this affect you but others around you, an example of this could be the realization that Jack faced had an impact not only on him, but on Parry too. In the film “The Fisher King” the main character Jack is faced with a life changing situation, and crowded by several epiphanies.
Fork in the road Right now you need to understand what a fork in the road is. A decision that changes your life one way or another, and each path has consequences. Not many people have many life changing decisions anymore.
Life course perspective is used in social science to help understand human development. It takes into account how a person grows and changes through life experiences. It looks at historical events as well as cultural changes that affect a person’ evolution over their life (The life course perspective, 2003-2018). Life course perspective states that there is complex interaction of social and environmental factors mixed with biological, behavioral, and physiological issues that define the course of a person’s life. Each stage in life exerts influences on the next stage, social, economic, and physical environments and they also have influences through a person’s life course.

The Neolithic Revolution marked the rise of civilizations and lead to modern societies. Without it, humans would not be where they are today, in a fully industrialized society. Throughout this book Iggers and Wang look at significant works and people that have changed the path of how history is written. The quality MSW program offered at Our Lady of the Lake will enable me to conduct research into, and increase my understanding of the diversity this program entails. I know that my adaptive personality will help me to form lasting connections to further build my professional goals. I believe that I my passion, drive, having an open mind and willingness to learn will grant me success as a Social Worker. I am determined to do all that I can to pursue a Master’s degree in Social Work and commit myself to improving the social and personal experiences of family’s, geriatrics, and children. Most transformative moments in life can be caused by the smallest of occurrences in life. Often people do not even realize that a pivotal moment in their life is happening. Someone may realize when they are mature enough that there was one special moment during their childhood that ultimately determined their lifelong goal. For others, they probably realized an “aha” moment right when it happened and from then on decided that they knew what they want to accomplish later on. I actually have taken from both sides of the spectrum from realizing that one special transformative moment but also not even knowing that it would end up steering me towards my current career choice.
Over the semester I have learned many new aspects of social work that have helped deepen my understanding of what social work is really about. This course has taught me things that will help me become a better person and will also help me with my future working with children. Self reflection is a key skill to have when working in social work. We need to understand how we are, and our social location, influence everything we do with social work. My beliefs and values would be beneficial for being a social worker because I have a caring no judgment, personality that allows me to be a neutral and to listen to people.
