The most important things a young person could ever learn are not taught in school. Skills like nutrition, respect of others, paying bills, taxes, and the horrors of student loans are what really matter in life. All of these areas are a sign of concern with adult Americans today. School should offer a class that one takes throughout the 12 years of grade school which covers all these critical and essential skills of life. Starting these classes now will help prevent the trends we are seeing today that continue to rise. Life Essentials should be a class offered which covers the essentials like health and finances, what people really need every day in their life.

Emotional intelligence is the most important part of human intelligence and it is not taught in school. From body language, to predicting others behaviors, to reading peoples moods, social skills are not taught in school but should be and could with ease. Just about anyone could write the curriculum and or teach this class that has a good outgoing people friendly personality as they are excellent with tone of voice and body language. In elementary school learning how to deal with bullies will be addressed also how not to be a bully. Many schools are a “bully free zone”, however this will still go on. This class will be a great way to help redirect the students to positive behaviors. In middle school the emotional stresses of dealing with boyfriends and girlfriends and the transition through puberty and hormones will be addressed. It’s critical to teach little adults stress coping skills and how to deal with feelings of inadequacy or they might turn to alcohol or drugs, which many kids do at this age. Safe sex, and skills at changing diapers should be taught hand and hand so kids can learn hands on what some effects of their actions are! High School curriculum would be mostly how to grocery shop, pay bills, clean and cook healthy as well as advanced stress coping skills and other life issues. As they are applying to collage they have to learn skills which will make them functional when away at school. Or if not going to school, they are taught that out of high school they have to know how to get a job, keep it, and deal with a boss.
