Sometimes life doesn't turn out the way that you think it will. Life is a series of chain reactions. One event affects another, either sooner or later. In the book “The Kite Runner”, the author Khaled Hosseini shows the different ways life turns out for each character. The story is based around the characters: Amir, Hassan, Amir's father Baba, and Baba's friend Rahim Khan. The author uses characterization to develop the theme about the circle of life. Amir is a young boy in Kabul who wants to live up to his father’s standards, by being into sports. Even with his heart being more into writing stories. Amir and his father find a common ground and bond over kite fighting, which they both enjoy doing. Amir spent most of his other time with Hassan. Hassan is a servant to Baba and Amir, and has been with them ever since Amir can remember. Hassan considers Amir as a very close friend, the only friend he knows, they would play together, read stories, and kite fight to pass their time. The way that Baba always wanted Hassan to be included in everything they do. To the point when Hassan was getting raped Amir did not do anything. He just watched and let it happen, he did not step in at all to defend Hassan. Once it was over he wanted to go on with his normal life as if it had never happened.
