World War I was a period in history that would test humanity as a whole. The slaughter of an entire generation by shell fire, poisonous gasses, and man to man combat shifted how the men fighting saw each other. The amount of hatred towards the fellow man was evident and instead of preserving the next generation of young men, they were turned into killing machines without even taking the slightest consideration that they are killing themselves internally and physically. Life in the trenches was as vivid and clear, similar to hell as most soldiers would consider calling the trenches.
