Additionally, Of Mice and Men informed me as both a student and a person because I learned about how to improve as a person, how to be successful, and how to be happy. It taught me many life lessons. This book also taught me how to be a good person because I learned that a lack of self awareness can hurt others. I learned this from the worksheet called “Of Mice and Men chapter 1 Questions” where Lennie killed a mouse. Lennie, one of the main characters, has an extreme lack of self awareness. In the text, Lennie’s companion George watched his friend Candy make the mistake of letting someone else kill his dog. Candy was absolutely heartbroken. After learning from his friend’s mistake, George decided that he needed to be the one to end Lennie’s life. Learning from mistakes is highly imperative in my life because it will help me be successful. If I never learned from my mistakes then I would keep making them and remain ignorant to vital life lessons. Freshmen learn many things in the 9th grade that prepare them for the next years in high school. We make mistakes that we hopefully won't repeat in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade and beyond. Additionally, Of Mice and Men taught me how to be happy by helping me learn that standing up for yourself improves the experience of life. I learned this by reading the book and noticing that when Lennie stood up for himself, he avoided a beating from Curley.
