Does being the master of your own death make an individual any different from those who experience a wielding one? This documentary on “The Life of David Gale” sparks up an interesting debate throughout the state of Texas. The main character, David Gale, was a professor at The University of Texas and an activist against capital punishment. Ironically, he was on death row for a murder of another activist against capital punishment, Constance Harraway. With four days left before his execution, David reaches out to reporter who is highly recognized by the public for protecting her sources, Bitsey Bloom. With only three days of two hour interviews, Bloom needed to compose a story of David’s life as he tells her, and portray it to his son so …show more content…

They did all of this to prove their views on capital punishment and how it should be abolished. Was what they did ethical? No, it was not but it was necessary in there eyes to get their point across. Davids reputation was ruined and everything he had worked for was taken from him. Ironically, he was now on death row for what he was trying to get abolished in the first place. This did not look good for Gale, everything was against him, but Bitsey Bloom believed otherwise. After Spending hours with Gale, Bloom recognizes that the facts are not all adding up. But it was too late, Bitsey could not put all the facts together fast enough. Gale played her purposely so she found out what actually happened just moments after he was executed. David knew that she was a respected reporter, and that is why he wanted her to go public with his story, and to relay the reasoning behind the murder of Constance Harraway. Constance died knowing it was for a good cause. She knew by creating a “perfect murder” that by the public’s view on capital punishment will be forever changed. This pointed out the flaws in the system and pointed out to the Governor of Texas of the one case where an innocent man was executed. To some, an act like this is morally wrong, but to others, including David and Constance, it was what needed to be done to get their point
