Our values, ideas and thoughts drive who we are in the real world, and conflict is an inevitable part of the process of growing. Reassessment of these same values, ideas and thoughts are equally inevitable when encountering some sort of conflict. The playwright Bertolt Brecht explores these sorts of transformations among characters In his play, especially when the type of conflict is man vs institution, Life of Galileo of course follows suit. In order to grow, one must learn, and in order to learn, one must encounter conflict. Life of Galileo explores the ideas and values that arise from conflict between man and science, and Galileo intends to rewrite astronomy history. Galileo and Barberini were talking about the Church in relation to his newfound discoveries, when Barberini the Holy Office will regard his theories as heresy. This is further enforced by the appearance of the Cardinal Inquistitor. To further stress the disregard for Galileo's theories that the Church holds, Gardinal Bellarmin states "Mr. Galileo, tonight the Holy Office decided that the doctrine of Copernicus is foolish, absurd, heretical and contrary to out faith. I have been charged to warn you that you must abandon this view". The Church believes that the newfound discoveries that have been made by Galileo contradicts the Church's beliefs, therefore he must be silenced. Fearing what will happen if he does continue his research, Galileo questions his values, wondering whether or not he must continue this profession. This is not just conflict between Galileo, Baberini, Bellarmin and the Church, this is also evidence of an inner conflict that Galileo holds, where he questions his motives and
