Religion is defined as “a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing moral code governing the conduct of human affairs” (Dictionary, 2014). It is practiced by over 75% of the world’s population and was primarily based around traditions that over time have shaped into five major diverse religions. Three of the most common religions practiced are Hinduism, Catholic Christianity and Islam. Throughout these particular faiths, fundamental connections are apparent which justifies possibility for religious pluralism. These connections are identified through the shared concepts of the belief in a supreme being, doctrinal and ethical beliefs and their ritual dimensions. It therefore must recognize that at least ‘some’ truth must exist in other belief systems. This is one example of “they can’t all be right” (Religion, 2002). It is an essential key to practice multiple faiths as seen in the Life of Pi. During the film, the main protagonist, Pi, explores the concept of religious pluralism by adopting the traditions of all faiths in an aim to view life from all different aspects. Research of the religions, Hinduism, Catholic Christianity and Islam and their traditions, rituals values and characteristics, provides information and justification to the possibility of practicing religious pluralism.
