Life of Pie The book i read was Life of Pi by Yann Martel. The main character was Pi Patel. He was a fourteen year old Indian boy from Pondicherry India. He was a slim boy with dark hair and dark eyes. He was deeply religious and practiced three religions, Hinduism,Catholicism, and Islam. He was a vegetarian who did not eat meat. He lived in the Pondicherry zoo with mother,father, and his brother Ravi. The family was on a journey to Canada with their animals after losing their zoo. Pi was part in the greatest battle his his life and survived.
In the beginning, Pi as a young boy had several battles he fought over. He spoke first of how he was bullied over his name Piscine. He endured this torture for quite a while. Pi was brilliant and showed everyone how smart he was at changing his name to Pi using the math formula 3.14. Worshiping a single religion clashed with his family values. He fought spiritually to worship Hindu, Christ, and Allah. Leaving Indian and moving to Canada was a real struggle. He had to give up his girlfriend Anandi, the zoo, and his beloved country Indian. On the way to Canada the cargo ship he and his family were on capsized during a horrific humongous storm. …show more content…

The initial struggle was with the cooks who killed the sailor and Pi’s mother. He eventually killed the cook. Pi as a Hindu never thought he could kill a human being, but he was enraged after the cook killed his mother and had to get revenge. Pi had to fight hard against sea sickness,fear,hunger, and thirst. Because he was Hindu he was at war with himself over killing fish and eating them to stay alive. Pi did eventually gives into his faith, and ate meat to survive. Another huge storm tested Pi, where he lost everything in the boat and was left with nothing ready to die. Even tho Pi had no water,food, or supplies left he stated “above all else never give up
