Socrates was a Greek philosopher who is considered the father of western philosophy and a contributor to western civilization, he was executed for his opposition to the state and the examined lifestyle he led. Socrates represents a view point of virtue, he presents that the philosophical life is the best life; he is put to death for his teachings. Socrates was executed in 399 B.C.E in Athens, his infamous trial was documented by his student, Plato who distributed "The Apology," 40-50 after the trial occurred. Socrates allowed himself to be put on trial because he believed that his death would shine light on his life as well as his teachings; thus, he intentionally lost the trial. The teachings of Jesus were profound, Jesus was the fulfillment of the messianic prophecy and that salvation will come to those who believe, and judgment will come to those who do not. Jesus taught of the 10 commandments again, he represented Christian love, he showed that salvation is for all people in all walks in life as long as they repent; his teachings are for everyone. Jesus would call on ordinary people to follow him and spread the good news of the Kingdom of God, these people were called his disciples. To enforce the significance of the Kingdom of God Jesus allowed himself and his disciples to baptize and to heal those who had faith. Jesus and his disciples healed the blind, they healed leprosy, they allowed the crippled to walk again, raises the dead, heals the sick, healing the mute, and healing every disease or sickness; while proclaiming the gospel. Initially, these two men gained friction through their teachings which led them to their trials and executions. Socrates was a biologist till the age of 46, he claimed that the Oracle had given him a divine calling which caused him to cross-examine and contradict everyone he spoke with; but Socrates does not believe in anything divine. Socrates was simply being ironic by noting that he had a divine calling, his teaching was not to understand wisdom or to promote virtue in the lives of others, but it was to reveal the ignorance that others were ignorant of. Jesus differs from Socrates, Jesus is a monotheistic man who had a divine calling from the Father to deliver the good news of the Kingdom of God. Jesus had to ignore temptation, he was led into the wilderness by the spirit to be tempted by the devil. Jesus was tempted for 40 days and 40 nights, Jesus knew that it was his divination to follow God and spread the gospel/miracles of the Father. Jesus was teaching everyone, those who would repent and had strong faith were rewarded with miracles. Jesus healed the blind, healed leprosy, allowed the crippled to walk again, raised the dead, healed the sick, healed the mute, and healed every disease or sickness; Jesus taught righteousness, forgiveness, morality, and love.
