The Lifeline Theatre is located in the heart of the Glenwood Avenue Arts District of Chicago’s historic Rogers Park. As a theatre company, Lifeline Theatre is dedicated to sharing a passion for stories. In their mission statement they emphasize the importance of “supporting writers in the development of literary adaptations and new works”; also, they aim to “foster a lifelong engagement with literature and the arts” (Lifeline Theatre, np). The concept behind the formation of this theatre company was that people should be able to engage in “big stories up close,” and they also believe that nobody should be left out of this engagement. There are services offered to allow everyone to make the most out of each performance such as touch tours, audio-described performances, assistive listening devices, open-captioned performances, Autism/sensory-friendly performances, and wheelchair accessible seating (Lifeline Theatre, np). Some Lifeline premiers include Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, Cat’s Cradle, Around the World in 80 Days, The Killer Angels, A Room with a View, The Island of Dr. Moreau, The Mark of Zorro, Mariette in Ecstasy, Neverwhere, Watershed Down, The Count of Monte Cristo, A Tale of Two Cities, and J.R.R. Tolkein’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy. As for their community service, Lifeline partners with Chicago schools, various festivals, and other Chicago artists. They annually serve over 17,000 people each season. Student Matinee programs, Artists in Residence pair ups, Community Days, and workshops are just a few ways that The Lifeline Theatre contributes to the community.
