Though this will not be a cooking essay, at some point in these movies there are scenes that include food. In this essay, I will discuss the movies, Chicken with Plums and Like Water for Chocolate. I will describe how they are similar and how they are different. I will also discuss the differences between Nasser Ali and his situation, and Tita and her family situation. First, the movie Chicken with Plum, is about a violinist, Nasser Ali, who becomes depressed after his wife breaks his violin, and then he decides to spend his last days laying on his bed. Later in the movie, we find that the cause of his depression is that the woman that he loved, Iran, pretended not to remember him when they first saw each other after a long time. As well, the movie Like Water for Chocolate, is about a young woman, Tita, who is not allowed to marry her lover, Pedro. That is because, Tita’s mother does not want her to marry, she wants Tita to take care of her while she is aging. …show more content…

In Chicken with Plums, you have Nasser Ali, a famous violinist, he first sees Iran going into her father’s store. Nasser Ali, then, purposefully breaks his clock to go to the store and fix it, but hopefully see Iran again. Later, he gets to talk to Iran and start forming a relationship. Unfortunately, Iran’s father disapproves of their relationship, and not be together. By the same token, in Tita’s case, her mother also disapproves of Tita’s relationship with Pedro, and makes him marry Tita’s sister, Rosaura. Another similarity is that both, Tita and Nasser Ali, had some sort of talent that distinguished them from others. In Tita’s case, it was her ability to cook, while in Nasser Ali’s, he was a famous and talented
