Que Vivan Los Tamales analyses the history of Mexico's evolving national identity via food. Mexican cuisine has changed dramatically from the the era of the aztecs, to the period of Spanish colonialism through to the Porfiriato dictatorship. Through these periods we we see food being used in a manner to unify the nation and create a national united identity. Below I will argue how the country attempted to unify its people though cuisine. When the Spanish conquered Mexico, they tried to impose old world techniques and spices onto the Mexicans.

In the story “Silver water” a family not only overlooks the actions that bother them, but they persist to find the good in one of the family members. The author, Amy Bloom tells a story of how a persistent family helps Rose on her rollercoaster journey of a life. The title “Silver Water” emphasises that even in water there is something inside that makes it sparkle.
From the start, it is clear that T.C. Boyle’s Tortilla Curtain aims to shed a light on the topic of Mexican immigrants in the United States. However, by having both a Mexican and an American woman share similar violent experiences with men, Boyle also places an emphasis on the less pronounced theme of sexual violence and discrimination against women, even in polar opposite realities. Early on, an invisible bond begins to form between the two main female characters, America, a recent Mexican immigrant and mother to be, and Kyra a successful white businessman. And while they never actually meet one another, as they endure and recover from their own personal problematic experiences with certain men, they are affected immensely by these events. America tries her best balance her new life of being an illegal, living in the ravine of Topanga Canyon with Candido, finding work and preparing for her baby to come.
If Mexican culture were a quilt, then the many varied fabric patches that comprise its surface would be meals, the batting would be equal parts family and religion, and the thread used to sew the quilt together would be tradition. The people of Mexico consider mealtimes to be of utmost importance in their culture; however, much like an attractive quilt that lacks proper insulation—pretty, but useless—mealtimes lose much of their meaning without the substance that family and religion provide. Child Soldiers Deserve to be granted with amnesty as long as they don’t act violent. These underaged soliders are forced to act violent. They are also drugged, leaving them no choice but to do what they are told. On the other hand, many argue that they shouldn’t be given amnesty. They say the child solider do have a choice between saving themselves or others, but in kids are too young to expect themselves to save others instead of themselves.

Nacho Libre is one of the few movies involving a male Mexican lead-character and is not centered around violence and drugs. However, the movie does portray the country of Mexico as a poverty stricken third world country filled with deserts and orphans. Another big problem with this movie is that the main character, Ignacio, is portrayed by the Caucasian comedian Jack Black. Most of the cast are Hispanic so there is some justice, but this is just another example of how Hollywood misrepresents
“Fiesta 1980” father and son. Junot Diaz story “Fiesta 1980” is a story about an immigrant family that came to the US in the hunt for better opportunities. The story includes a myriad number of culturalisms to show that Yunior’s family is still new and that they still conserve their traditions. Nevertheless, Yunior’s family is not so different from many other Hispanic families in the US; a great amount of Hispanics families can be represented by “Fiesta 1980”.
