Lilith's Story: When She Came To School

The Secret Everyone claimed to know the story. To know what really happened. “Details” were told of the gruesome story. Shocked faces of those who had received the details went and told others; only this time, they twisted the story into their own personal plot. When she entered the building, the quiet murmurs of gossip slowly subsided. Faces turned to look, curious, yet surprised to see the young girl enter. The tension in the room was so thick one could cut it with a knife. The young girl walked with long strides in hopes to escape the tension. As she began walking, gossip began to ooze from the mouth of students. “It’s a wonder she came to school” whispered one girl to another. Desks were arranged in lines according to the row at which they were placed and stairs were located at the sides of each row. In the front of the classroom was a podium; directly behind was a large screen. As I entered the dark classroom the pungent smell of decaying English books hits my nose with such a force my eyes began to water. Walking up the seemingly never ending stairs, I take a seat at the very top of the classroom. Normally I prefer to sit in the front of the class as opposed to the isolation of the back but considering the school buzzing with rumors about Lilith-- my best friend-- I decided to lay low. My watch reads seven fifteen; forty five minutes earlier than when the class starts. For the past week I have been coming to school early to read a book that I have become infatuated with. Today, however, I have come to be alone. Engulfed in the empty darkness of the classroom, my mind begins to wander. As I sit and ponder the many controversial thoughts that venture into my mind I soon realize it is almost seven thirty. The classroom, now coming to life with students entering, thunders with the voices of many. The conversations all seem to have a similar trend:
