Lilly is such a brave girl throughout this story. She goes through ups and downs but continues to focus on what's important to her and that's finding out who her mother is. From a young age she's dealt with an abusive father, never being able to meet her mother, and having to travel on her own with her nanny. She never complains about anything and she tries hard to make everything positive. She wants to always please other people and get to know someone really well. Lilly is a very helpful person, she always offered to help out around the house. Determined is one of the main words that really describes her because she never stops trying to see who knows her mom or she never stops trying to help someone out and be there for them. She has so much baggage when she was told her whole life from her abusive father “ your mother only came back to get her clothes, she didn't come back for you.” Later realizing she shot her mother on accident because she was only trying to help her mom get away from her dad. That's because over these past fourteen years have been horrible for her until she left and found a new home. Even though these years have been rough for her, the little happiness she gets from zach and all the new people in her life she doesn't hesitate to take it all in. For someone to still smile after going through a lot is very hard to do but she does it because shes strong. She cares a lot about nature and being outside because it makes her feel happy in someway. She likes to find the little things in her life that make her feel better or happy. Which is very important in order to move on from the past and think about everything that's happened and just accept
