Lily Owens shows the consequences of not educating your child correctly, Lily had many reasons to act the way she did because her mother wasn't there when she most needed it, but still it is not proper to just do whatever you want when youre under age and yoire just hurt because it could bring you many consequences, lily's mom didn't leave her because Lily’s mother wanted to it was because she died, Lily needed a mother she could rely on, Lily in fact needed somebody she could talk about her women problems, in the other hand her dad didn’t even try to be for her knowing that Deborah, Lily’s mom had died.

Being a single parent is never going to be easy, and it's going to be even harder knowing that your own child was the one that killed that special person, the one T.ray (Lily’s dad) “Claimed to love” Lily was just without boundaries because T ray always had rough punishments that worked her physically but not mentally that’s why Lily acted how she did.
Even though lilly killed her own mom it wasn't a reason for T ray to treat lilly like that because lilly Is still his own blood, T ray didn’t treat deborah the way she deserved, T.Ray felt like he was looking at deborah when he’d seen lily. That’s why he thought that if he’d punish her harshly she wouldn’t leave like Deborah did.
Lily felt like he was living hell in that house, lilly felt loved only by one person which is Rosaleen, she's always stayed by her side, Lily acts immature cause there’s nobody that could teach her how to fix problems. Lily would isolate herself because she’s insecure of who she really is
