Lindbergh baby WHat: Charles lindbergh 20 month old son was kidnapped on March 1, 1932 at about 9 pm. There was a ransom note asking for $50,000 on the nursery window sill. Another ransom note was sent out asking for $70,000 this time. They gave $50,000 to get their child back but the baby was accidentally found dead near their house. He had been dead for two months from a blow to the head. How: They used the ransom note to compare certain words and letters to Hauptmanns handwriting. They wrote their letters the same way making him have a connection to the case. Findings: They also found that Hauptmann had made some purchases relating to the case. They found $13,000 that were secreted in his garage. IS it Effective: Yes i think it was effective because if they didn't look at the ransom note they wouldn't have had a lead.
