Literary Analysis for Anthem by Ayn Rand by Grayce Schettler, Walker Keel, and Katlynn Hagen. The book, Anthem, by Ayn Rand is a very complex book. This book is a good book to choose for those who like futuristic stories, or stories that need deep thinking in order to comprehend the book. In this book the main character, Equality 7-2521 is afraid to be independent, since there is no such thing as independence in this story. He comes in contact with an underground room and learns about many things from the “Unmentionable times” that he isn’t supposed to know about. Due to the things he learned he wanted to tell the “Council of the Scholars,” so that they could find out more about what he found and learned. The book first starts out at the home where he was in a school type system until he was 15 years old when he was assigned to the “Home of the Street Sweepers” where Equality 7-2521 was assigned his job/ line of work. This meant that Equality 7-2521 had that one job and was to live in that one place. The next important setting in the story was the Cave, from the Unmentionable times. In this cave, Equality 7-2521 discovered and tried to learn about how living things worked, he also tried to harness the power of the “Sun” in his box and how the light worked. This cave is a big key in the development of Equality 7-2521’s character. Equality became more independent unknowingly, by being by himself and learning more while he was by himself. So we have talked about how all of our evidence has lead us to our theme -Not let yourself be controlled by others, be different, independent and outgoing, and, to not be afraid to seek knowledge and or be curious- so only thing left is to wrap it up. So this was a very interesting book with a lot of interesting and new ways of writing that I have never really seen before. We found it very interesting that this book was written so long ago would talk about such modern technology. We found this book to be kind of like the Hunger Games like how Katniss Everdeen and the districts are in this weird little dictatorship, hierarchy thing that's kind of like what Prometheus is in right now but instead of trying to abolish the government he is just trying to get away from the government so he can be free to be with his love Liberty 5-3000 and their child in peace without the fear of losing his child or being punished for loving Liberty 5-3000. We should all let this be a lesson to us that we shouldn't let others determine who we are or let ourselves be afraid to be ourselves. So remember you can love or be whoever you want and if someone makes fun of you for it just brush them
