The Things They Carried Literary Analysis
“Battle is the most magnificent competition in which a human being can be in, Bringing out the best in people . All men are afraid in battle the coward is the one who let’s his fears overcome his senses of duty”(ExampleEssay.com).” The Thing They Carried” by Tim O’Brien showed some of theses characteristics in some of the characters in the book. That I want to include that some of the events and presentations are interpret a product of culture from the author. Some main characters I’m going to talk about is the Tim O’Brien, Jimmy Cross, Kiowa, and Mitchell Sanders, just a couple of people i think story is different and have a bit more to say on how they feel going into the war. Tim enter the war a scary young kid afraid of the shame or embarrassment dodging the war will bring him and leaves the war guilty and tells painful memories. Jimmy on the other hand Corps officer who seen a lot in war who wasn’t really caring about the war or head just wasn’t in it that caused one of his men to die. Now the guilt is stuck in his head from the tragedy that he caused to his fellow soldiers. Mitchell Sanders is one of the likable characters in the book who has a strong sense of justice specially when the death of Kiowa happens. Kiowa was a compassionate soldier who life was taken while being in the war, but so gruesome the way it was taken. But the reason for all of this background information is to let you know how some of theses stories isn’t really much different from each other. Tim O’Brien shows how his book “The Things They Carried” how soldiers feel about the Vietnam War, And their turning points to realization that this wasn’t for them, the regret, questioning themselves, and the opposing to fight.
