Literary Devices In Lather and Nothing Else In the short story, Lather And Nothing Else, Hernando Tellez uses the literary devices of foreshadowing and imagery in significant ways to the story's narrative. Firstly, foreshadowing is used simply in the title Lather and Nothing Else. It is understood that the Barber did his job in the end, and did not fight back against Torres. Though he has thought about it many times he has “said, ‘A good barber like myself stakes his reputation on permitting that to happen to any of his customers’”( 3). Nevertheless, this means the Barber is a revolutionary but does not want to wound his customer. The customer, Torres inflicts fear on the Barber which abides him being right there in the Barber’s chair.
