In to kill a mockingbird by famous author harper lee, Tom Robinson, Mayella Ewell and Atticus Finch were used as Mockingbirds. Tom Robinson was bashed and accused of raping a white girl named mayella. In the book to kill a mockingbird symbolism is a literary device where the author used an object to stand for an idea. Mayella is a nineteen year old girl, Her mother died when she was younger. Her father Bob Ewell was an alcoholic who only drunk whiskey. Her family is known as trash and poor, Mayella has several siblings, most of them were her children. Mayella's father raped and beat her, That is the situation that makes mayella a mockingbird. Tom went around the yard and seen it was nothing that needed work. Mayella then told tom it was a door off the hendges inside, Tom walked in and seen it was nothing wrong with the door at all. In court tom said “she kind of jumped on me, then kissed me¨, This shows that tom is a mockingbird because he is lied on and accused of raping mayella, shot 17 times all because mayella's father made her lie to keep him out of trouble.
