In the novel "Little Bee" the author Chris Cleave communicates a universal message on the view of refugees. Currently there are over 21 million refugees worldwide which continue to struggle and believe they have no home and belong nowhere. These refugees all have a story to carry and pass down, and within these stories represents their life. These stories are told from several different perspectives usually with an issue involving there safety from low security within their country. The author Chris Cleave demonstrates a well put example on this issue with the interwoven narratives of both Little Bee, a young refugee form Nigeria and Sarah, a British Journalist. To begin with on this fateful day Sarah and Andrew need to make a terrible choice on cutting off their middle fingers to save the lives of little Bee and her sister kindness. Unlike Andrew Sarah completes the task of cutting her middle finger off to save little bees life. Furthermore several years later this moment Sarah and Andrew are constantly reminded and in a way haunted on what happened to Kindness and Little Bee. Sarah's missing finger is a souvenir and reminder of that fateful day, “I sat in my pew, massaged the stump of my finger, and found myself acknowledging for the first time that my husband had been doomed since the day we met Little Bee (Cleave 25). As time goes on Andrew encounters Little Bee once more out in the garden of his home, unfortchantly Andrew became immanently frighten therefore committing suicide. However comparatively to Andrew Sarah meets little bee On the day of Andrews funeral, drawing away dome of the shock of her sudden arrival. Then the next morning both Little Bee and Sarah's troubles collide once again as Little Bee tells her story. As Little Bee continues her story Sarah becomes remorse and desperate to repay Little Bee for the loss of her family and inhumane treatment at the immigration detention center. "I dreamed of...a carved wood veranda, painted white, and a long curved garden with bright flowers and dark shade. I traveled through my country and I listened to stories of all kinds. Not all of them were sad. There were many beautiful stories that I found. There was horror, yes, but there was joy in them too. The dreams of my country are no different than yours – they are as big as the human heart (Cleave 258). Following this Little Bee believes that stories can be developed though a simple expression or mark. For instance scars reveal a story and to Little Bee in means I survived. “I ask you right here please to agree with me that a scar is never ugly. That is what the scar makers want us to think. But you and I, we must make an agreement to defy them. We must see all scars as beauty. Okay? This will be our secret. Because take it from me, a scar does not form on the dying. A scar means I survived… In a few breaths’ time I will speak some sad words to you… You must hear them the way we have agreed to see scars now. Sad words are just another beauty. A sad story means, this storyteller is alive. The next thing you know something fine will happen to her, something marvelous, and then she will turn around and smile (Cleave 9). Theses stories
