Little Briar Rose is a variation of the classic fairytale Sleeping Beauty that depicts in my opinion, no matter how hard you try to protect the things you love, obstacles will always come about, but in the end love will conquer all. As Little Briar Rose, by Jacob & Wilhelm Grimm is the most original version of the story which is somewhat different than the classic disney version we are all familiar with today. There once was a king and queen who very much wanted to have children but were incapable of achieving what they desired. Everyday, the two of them fantasized over the thought of having a child of their own, and this dragged on for countless years. The king was so overwhelmed with joy that he decided to throw a ball for the birth of his daughter, inviting everyone from the kingdom, including the twelve of the thirteen wise women. Leaving out one only because the King had 12 gold plates. Each of the twelve wise women bestowed a gift upon the beautiful princess. The gifts were personal immaterialistic things, like virtue and beauty and so on. Before the final gift was bestowed, the wise women that was not invited cursed the princess out of rage. The princess was to prick her finger on a spindle and die. The final gift from the last wise women altered the curse and instead of her dying, the princess would fall into a deep sleep for 100
