A lot of individuals have various diseases, and when they get sick, they go to the hospital or the clinic to get a treatment. The scientists have developed cures to most of the known diseases, but they have not found a cure to few diseases. Sam Berns and Lizzie Velasquez are two people with rare diseases that the scientists have not found a cure for them yet. Sam Berns has Progeria, and Lizzie Velasquez has Marfanoid-progeroid-lipodystrophy syndrome. Both diseases have similar effects: unable to gain weight. In Sam Berns and Lizzie Velasquez’s kindergarten year, they were bullied by mean and rude children. Even they were teased for their handicaps, they were optimistic. Sam Berns wanted to play snare drum in marching band, but he could not carry a normal snare drum due to his disease. He had some activities that he could not do, yet by making few adjustments, he accomplished his dreams that others believed he could not accomplish. He told himself and others that he has very happy life. To keep his happy life, he surrounded himself with people that he wants to be such as his family and friends. In contrast of Sam, changing his difficulty to happiness, Lizzie overcame her difficulties too. Alexandra Zaslow stated that Lizzie was depressed when she found out about “a hurtful YouTube video . . . mocked her as ‘The World’s Ugliest Woman’” To make her feel more confident, her parents told her people who bully her are rude and taught her to see benefits out of her syndrome. For instance, she could eat as much as she desires and does not gain any weight. She used her negative things to reach her goals.
