Lloyd Grable is living proof that you can, in fact, teach an old dog new tricks. At 90 years old, Lloyd traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina for a two-week Spanish immersion program. As a WWII veteran, father of 4, grandfather of 13, and retired federal employee, it's fair to say that Lloyd has experienced a lot of adventure throughout his life. He grew up in San Francisco, California and has traveled to places such as Saigon, Saudi Arabia, Cuba, Panama, Spain, and France. He reports that the food in Buenos Aires was quite good and he was especially fond of the empanadas. He also enjoyed the good restaurants that were close by the apartment he stayed in. The apartment was owned by an Argentinian couple and Lloyd shared his room with one other student. The family was very nice and had a nice, older dog who got along well with everyone. Neither the owners of the apartment or Lloyd's roommate spoke any English, so Lloyd truly got to experience Spanish immersion. Both the apartment and the city in general felt safe and comfortable for Lloyd. The program Lloyd attended also organized some fun activities and excursions for the students. One trip was to an Estancia, a type of ranch that raised cattle and taught the students about gaucho culture. While there, Lloyd got to ride a horse for the first time in many years and also enjoyed demonstrations of gaucho riding and Spanish dance.
