While telenovelas are loved by many, there are many stereotypes about telenovelas. Some people believe telenovelas are only for Hispanics. This is not true. Many different countries around the world including Turkey, Japan, Germany, and the US have their own telenovelas. Whether they are adapted and changed to their culture or originals, they are loved around the world. Some believe they have bad acting or too much drama. This is false. Telenovelas are aired everyday typically for around 120 episodes while soap operas, never seem to end. While generally, these stereotypes are not true, there are some criticisms of telenovelas that are true. The portrayal of women in telenovelas, especially traditional telenovelas, is that they are weak and dumb. This is especially prevalent in Lo que la Vida me Robó.
Lo que la Vida me Robó is a Mexican telenovela that aired on Televisa from 2013-2014. This novella was a remake of the 1983 Mexican telenovela Bodas de Odio. Both telenovelas, and Amor real, another remake of this story from 2003, were produced by Televisa. In Lo que la Vida me Robó, the main character, Monserrat, is a beautiful, blonde, young woman. Her mother, Graciela Mendoza wants to marry her off to a millionaire for her own selfish reasons. Monserrat however, is deeply in love with a man named José Luis Àlvarez. José Luis is a petty officer.
