In the story Logan’s Run by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson, the main character Logan
William returned to the bedroom and opened his gym bag. He pulled out a clean t-shirt and pair of sweatpants, and continued digging through the gym bag. “Oh shit,” William whispered when he realized that he forgot to pack an extra pair of underwear. Putting on the day’s boxer briefs after a sweaty workout would be disgusting. He slid into the sweatpants without underwear.
I say in a hurry. “Ray gun? why do you need the ray gun Acteon?”. “A MARTIAN TOOK MOM!” I say now screaming in frustration and anger.
Even though Logan was not a bad man, Janie did not love him, and ended up leaving him for her second husband, Jody. Now, Jody was a great man who had ambitions and treated everyone the way they should have been treated in the beginning, but that didn’t last very long. A few years into the marriage, Jody started beating Janie because of his own insecurities that were too much for him to control. The main two of these insecurities would be jealousy and his own aging body. These two things do not go very well when mixed with having a beautiful and young wife.

Ellen Foster: A contemporary work written by Kaye Gibbons Kaye Gibbons’ Ellen Foster is a contemporary work that discusses women, cultures, and abuse. Ellen Foster is considered contemporary because it was written in the post World War era, and the topics within the book conflict with the ideals of the time period in which it was written. To capture the attention of an audience and enhance the mood of the book, Gibbons used diction, sentence structure, and misspelled words in a way that only the main character would. Gibbons was able to express her feelings on controversial topics through the situations characters experienced throughout her book. One might wonder when and where the inspiration for the setting of Ellen Foster began.

There has been much debate about whether or not year-round schools should be used more in the United States. Year-round schools have a total of 180 days of instruction, but instead of a long 2-3 month break for summer, the students get about a month off and the rest of the days a distributed throughout the calendar. Some common calendar types for year round schools are 60/20 which is 60 days of instruction and 20 days of break and the 45/15 which is 45 days of instruction and 15 days of break (“Year-Round Education
On November 28, 2001, 12-year old Christopher Pittman shot and killed his grandparents, Joe and Joy Pittman, in their South Carolina home. The moments leading up to the murder of his grandparents, Christopher patiently waited for his grandparents to fall asleep. Once he felt his grandparents were soundly asleep, he shot both of them in their beds — they never saw what was coming. After he murdered them, he set his grandparents’ house on fire and he fled from the flames by driving off with his family’s truck. The only items that he brought along with him were some money and weapons.
These characters inflict and/or suffer from physical, emotional and verbal violence. Johnny was described as “"a little dark puppy that has been kicked too many times and is lost in a crowd of strangers.” Violence had scarred him, physically and emotionally. He had been harmed by violence up to the point where he was “scared of his own shadow.” All his life Johnny has been insulted, ignored and abused.
