Maria Mitchell was born in Nantucket, Massachusetts on August 1, 1818, and was one of nine brothers and sisters. Her family were Quakers and believed in equal education for men and women. Maria attended local schools and was tutored by her father. He taught her how to use a telescope when she was twelve, and she helped him calculate exactly when the annual solar eclipse would be. By the time she was fourteen, she was writing directions for sailors’ whaling trips.
From the age of five, nothing could stop Catherine Granado from playing hockey. As she grew, so did her love and skill for the sport; so much so that she skated her way to the Olympics in 1998 and brought home the Gold Medal. Cammi Granado attended Province College, where she played on the school’s hockey team. She became the best player on the team, leading them to two national championships and being the European Civil Aviation Conference player of the year for three consecutive years. In 1990, she was accepted onto the first United States national women’s hockey team, and became that team’s leading goal scorer with thirty goals in twenty-five games.
Jenny Dolores Rivera Saavedra, better known as Jenni Rivera was born in Long Beach, California on July 2, 1969. Jenni Rivera is daughter of, singer and composer, Pedro Rivera and Rosa Saavedra, and sister of Lupillo Rivera, Juan Rivera, Gustavo Rivera and Rosie Rivera. Jenni is better known as a Mexican-American singer. Jenni Rivera’s teen years weren’t easy. She got pregnant at the age of 15 by Trino Marin, her parents kicked her out of their house and then she dropped out of school to take care of her baby and to marry Trino in 1984.

Mariel Margaret Hamm was born on March 17th, 1972 in the small town of Selma, Alabama. As the fourth of six children born into this military family, Mia moved around constantly and spent her early years as a toddler in Florence Italy, where she was initially introduced to her life passion of women’s soccer. However, Mia was born with clubfoot and wore corrective braces as a toddler, thus preventing her to participate in any sport at a young age. Her love for sports truly began at the age of five on a soccer team her dad coached, continued throughout middle school as a played on the boy’s football team and then in high school as a starting forward in soccer. Her soccer life began to excel when at age 15 she joined the United States Women’s national soccer team – thus becoming the youngest in history to be selected to join such an elite group of soccer stars.
Melba Pattillo Beals was born on the same day of the Pearl Harbor attack. When Melba was born, she was detected scalp infection in which cause multiple medical complications. Her life was at risk due to the fact that she was African American and was not given proper medical care by the doctors. The doctors and nurses did not do much to save newborn Melba. Melba’s mother, Lois, took it to herself to help her daughter survive.
Molly Pitcher will never be forgotten! Molly Pitcher made couragous desicisions that would later make her one of the greatest female heroics in the American Revolution. Researching her taught me that something you do that you might consider small or usual may change your life and your future. If Molly hadn’t stepped in for her husband while he was unable to fight, she probably would have just been another women helping the soldiers during the war. Instead we learn about how we can be brave like her.
Lucille Ball is an admirable woman for contributing to the world numerous times. Born on August 6, 1911, in Jamestown, New York. Lucille Ball got her start as a singer, model and film star before becoming one of America's top comedic actresses. With the 1950s TV show I Love Lucy, she became a hit. When she was 15 she convinced her mother to allow her to enroll in a New York City drama school.
The famous Tejano Queen, Selena Quintanilla-Perez, was born in Houston, Texas on April 16, 1971. Selena was involved in the music industry from a very early age because her family was struggling to find a way to get by. Selena started off singing with her siblings, calling themselves, “Selena y Los Dinos”. Quickly Selena’s music career started taking off and soon enough Selena became known all over the United States as the Queen of Tejano music. Selena was murdered on March 31, 1995 by one of the members of her fan club.

By possessing and using leadership skills, impacting others around her, and being a great team player are reasons why Johnson is successful as a nurse leader.
Harriet A Jacobs was born into slavery by the parents of Elijah and Delilah jacobs February 11, 1813.Harriet grew up in Edenton NC,at a very young age she was being traded back and forward following the death of her mother which lead her to become sad and alone only as a child. Harriet was a slave of former masters of Margaret horniblow,Daniel Jacobs,and Andrew Knox. Later on Harriet escaped from slavery and was later freed,she became a abolitionist speaker and reformer. Harriet Ann Jacobs was a very broken person throughout the hard times she went through as a young child based on the troubles of her mother's passing and a fact that she born into such cruel thing known as slavery and having to deal with being passed around to a different
Strenght is a word that has many meanings and can be found in many ways. Melba Patillo Beals had to find strength while struggling through bullying and harrassment because she was one of the nine black members who attended central high school when it first integrated as the the first integrated school in arkansas. Protesters and white students would call her and the rest of LR9 names and tell them to go home and try to harm them. Even though they had national guards and different troops to protect them she was assigned a soldier named Danny , there were a lot of rules against protecion for the guards so there for There were many instances where their lives were in great danger. One day however, the school decided to go a day without any protection.
Her father died in 1937 from tuberculosis. Her mother being a prostitute, a theft, and very unstable, abandoned Puente and her siblings. A year later, Puente’s mother died in a car crash. By the time Puente was sixteen, she was working in a cathouse as a prostitute. That is where she met her first husband, Fred McFaul,
Harriet Ann Jacobs is the first Afro-American female writer to publish the detailed autobiography about the slavery, freedom and family ties. Jacobs used the pseudonym Linda Brent to keep the identity in secret. In the narrative, Jacobs appears as a strong and independent woman, who is not afraid to fight for her rights. Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl was published in 1961, but was unveiled almost 10 years later due to the different slave narrative structure. Frequently, the slave narratives were written by men where they fight against the slavery through literacy by showing their education.
Mary Shelley subtitled her novel The Modern Prometheus, this suggesting a strong connection with the ancient Promethean myths. The Prometheus appears in Greek myth as a divine being, he is the creator of mankind. He stole fire from heaven when they were denied it by Zeus, and to have been punished by being fastened to a cliff in the Caucasus where an eagle tore daily at his liver. Frankenstein shared many similarities with Prometheus. In Frankenstein, Victor played the role of the modern Prometheus.
