The Long Walk Home Gut Reactions:
1: The Long Walk Home to me was a interesting film. I enjoyed the growing relationship between Odessa and Mrs. Thompson throughout the fim. As the film progressed Mrs. Thompson slowly pulled away from her husband's ideals and developed her own. She stood up for what was right, and to me that was enjoyable.
2: The Long Walk home had some moment that surprised me. Tucker seemed very creepy to me, and I was surprised about the way he talked to the little girl. Tucker gave off an inappropriate vibe to me when he talked to the little girl. Another surprising moment was when Odessa revealed that white women were helping with the carpool. Why did Theo take the hits from the white people who were harassing him and his sister? Did he do it out of fear, bravery or to prove something to those white people? Another question I have is why did Mrs. Thompson join the boycott of the buses? Did she do it to befriend Odessa, prove that she isn’t racist or did her morals play a part in her choice?
4: I found a few sence to be amusing to me in the film. The scene when Mrs. Thompson argued with her husband was amusing to me. It was amusing because she stood up to her husband, and challenged his beliefs. Another scene I found amusing is when Mrs. Thompson joined the black woman in linking arms in front of many white people. This scene was powerful, and made me like Mrs. Thompson even more because of her bravery, and ability to go against her own husband.
5: According the film life under the rules and regulation of Jim Crow was difficult for black people. Black people were segregated and frowned upon by white people. Society believed that black people were inferior to whites. An example of segregation is how black people had to sit on the back of the bus while whites got to sit in the front. Mrs. Thompson husband described black people as a different species which sums up white people's beliefs at the time very well. This film showed how segregated black people were at the
