INTRODUCTION
“Looking for Alaska” is a novel made by John Green. It was published in March 2015 by Dutton Juvenile, a well-known publisher in the United States. Being his first novel, the story was inspired by John Green’s experiences in high school as a student. The book’s story works around Miles “Pudge” Halter trying to know the “Great Perhaps” (Rabelais, poet) by going to Culver Creek Boarding School where he encountered many events of happiness …show more content…

He was nicknamed by “The Colonel” because of his tall and skinny physical appearance. He is from Florida, where he was raised. He transfers to Culver Creek Boarding School in Alabama where apparently his father is an alumnus. He is so vulnerable as a character that he gets himself easily be confuse and insecure. In Florida, he was so unpopular in his high school that it affected his way in socializing with other people that makes him a good follower instead of a leader. He has an unusual hobby and interest on memorizing famous peoples’ last words. He set his goal so that he can search for his very own “Great Perhaps”. As the story progresses, he slowly builds attraction to a girl named Alaska, who had mixed feelings, not returning his affection. He also came across so many difficulties like being pranked and having to lose someone very close and important, and at the same time fun experiences like setting a prank for the whole school and finally having friends to depend on to. He is Alaska’s best friend and Miles’ roommate. He is a blunt and a straight forward character. He is a natural born leader that carefully gives instructions so that they can perfectly execute every plan that he and Alaska produce. He is also responsible for everyone’s nicknames. He comes from a poor family that is why he is fixated with the idea of loyalty and honor. He is also fixated on drinking and smoking, using them when he is encountering a problem or experiencing mischief. Throughout the story, he acts as a balance between the mysteriousness of Alaska and the Uncontrollable Miles.
Takumi Hikohito
Takumi Hikohito is a Japanese friend of Alaska and Chip. He is thin and slightly taller than “The Colonel”. He helps Miles to understand Alaska’s unpredictability while the story is proceeding. Takumi admitted later in the story that he likes Alaska but can’t have her because of her having a boyfriend. He often feels overlooked in the plans of Miles, Alaska and Chip.
Lara Buterskaya
Lara is a Romanian immigrant and an exchange student who recently come to Culver Creek Boarding School. She is Alaska’s friend and Miles’ girlfriend and later, ex-girlfriend. She took part with the events that the Miles and the group have done. She plays a big role in Miles’ life because she is the first girl she dated and kissed. She helps Miles discover new things about
