In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, there were many characters to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. However, the character that was most to blame is Lord Capulet. Lord Capulet (also known as Capulet) is the father of Juliet and the family rival of Romeo (Montague family). One reason Capulet is to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet is that he will not let go of his grudge against the Montague family. As a consequence of this, this causes stress to the relationship between Romeo and Juliet. “Three civil brawls, bred of an airy word By thee, old Capulet, and Montague, Have thrice disturbed the quiet of our streets” (Shakespeare 1.1.80-83). Later on, this feud causes many fights and disturbances. If Capulet were to just let the feud go and make peace with the Montagues, all this would end. In addition, another reason Capulet is to blame for Romeo and Juliet's death is that he forced his daughter Juliet to marry someone (Paris) that she does not want to. Capulet makes a deal with another guy essentially confirming the marriage of Juliet with a man named Paris when Juliet has no interest in Paris but in Romeo. “Sir, Paris, I will make a desperate tender Of my child’s love. I think she will be ruled In all respects by me; nay more, I doubt it not. Wife, go you to her ere you go to bed; Acquaint her here of my son Paris’ love And bid her” (Shakespeare 3.4.12-17). In this, Capulet and Paris are talking about marrying Juliet. Capulet is confirming his decision with Paris about him marrying her without her consent first. This is the main reason Romeo and Juliet go to Friar to make the plan so she does not have to marry Paris. This is one of the main reasons Romeo and Juliet die!
