Everyone has a dark side to them. This dark side brings out fear, war, and the savagery of man. In Lord of the Flies, the kid’s dark side shows what the “beast” is. In the story the “beast” is represented by fear, war, and the savage side of man. In the beginning of the story the kids called the “beast” a snake-thing which later turned into the beastie. The beastie is a snake that lived on the island that would eat children and turn into a vine on a tree during daytime. In Document A the littluns were the first to populate the darkness with spirits and demons know as the “beast”. There fears are externalized in the text because the kids don’t know what it is, so they assume it is a “beast”. Close to the middle of the story the “beast”
