I have mixed feelings about the book, Lords of the Flies by William Golding. Although the book provided a vivid portrayal of the characters and their personalities, as well as a graphic visualization of the setting, I was saddened by all that took place on the island. I felt the moment the boys arrived on the island they were destined for tragedy, mainly because some of the boys were as young as five-years-old and the oldest was merely twelve. Since there were no adults to direct and supervise them, Jack and Roger teased, mocked, and tortured the other boys without fear or consequence. Consequently, chaos and savagery quickly took over and the boys went from hunting for food to killing each other.
