Martin Luther King a famous social activist once stated, “we must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love.” These words refer to the fact that power is not given to you, it is earned by being able to love and forgive. Even though a person might think they have power they have to love and forgive enable to has power. This concept is shown in the actions of Jack in William Golding 's Lord of the Flies. Jacks use of the beastie gives him power because the boys need to protection. Jack makes weapons for the boys in chapter 2 the group of boys were in a circle. One of them said they saw the beastie in the dark (Golding 36). When the boys heard of the beastie Jack knew he had power because Ralph can not build anything. After the beastie was in everyone 's mind jack and a few others went hunting for the beastie along for finding food. when they caught the pig they stuck its head on in the stick. the pig shows power because when Jack caught the pick he said there going to chop the head off and said that would protect them from the beastie. “What I mean is . . . maybe it’s only us.”(Golding 104 ) Simon spokes these words in Chapter 5, during the meeting in which the boys consider the question of the beast.
