No matter what form of government a country has, they all have one thing in common. That one thing is to rule the citizens under its power that has been established. Many people don't realize it, but government is a vital part of ones life. The boys however, from Lord of the Flies realized how important government is to society rather quickly after finding themselves stranded on an island with no adults around. The boys know that in order to survive until they are rescued, they have to come up with some form of government. Out of necessity they identify a leader, select symbols like the conch that give them authority, and come up with a duty for each individual to perform as their role in their society. If the government is not ran correctly, then society falls apart which is what happens in Lord of the Flies. When the boys first arrive at the island they elect Ralph as the chief. In the world, there are those who have the instinct to become leaders and Ralph just so happens to be one of those people. From the beginning of the movie, Jack desires power above all other things. He was furious when he lost the election to Ralph, so in order to gain more power he continued to push past his assigned duties. Jack was very strong willed and had a savagery instinct, and he is very violent. As Jack became increasingly agressive to the boys with the exception of a few follwed his ways. They were afraid to stand up to him: therefore, they just did what ever he ordered. Thus giving him authority over all of them.
