Human Nature Makes Us Evil 15-20% of the world is sensitive to MNT. Even though it does not sound like much, it is equivalent to 1.2-1.6 billion people. Sometimes people don’t even realize it and act out because it’s normal for them. When some people get mad, they go overboard and hurt those around them. Morals are very important and can keep people from doing the wrong things. What happens when people start to isolate themselves and get away from their morals? What would their human nature be? William Golding accurately expresses human nature as evil through his characters in Lord of The Flies, with a lack of remorse and prejudice. In the Lord of The Flies, the boys' prejudice towards Piggy has them dismiss what Piggy has to say and even go as far as to harm him to get what they desire. At the beginning of the book, the boys did not respect Piggy. They would call him “fatty” and break his specs without asking to use it (Golding 71). In another situation, Piggy tries to be heard claiming that he “got the conch” (Golding 180). When he was about to be heard, people found out that someone was throwing rocks at him, which led to his death (Golding 180). Towards the end of the novel, the boys remained the same and continued to dismiss Piggy because he was different. The boys would disrespect Piggy almost every chance they got, which would result in Piggy’s death. In addition, during 1964, there was a group of protesters in a pool in a motel in St. Augustine, Florida as an attempt to desegregate the pool. The owner did not like the fact that people were protesting and ended up pouring acid (NPR). The owner of the motel would rather mistreat people of color than give them a place to cool down. Human nature is how one wants to react to a given situation.
