Golding’s book Lord of the Flies is a prime example of how humans are, and can change to be, inherently evil. In the book, a group of British school boys during the Cold War get stranded on an island and try to survive. The boys are holding a meeting to talk about the problem of the beast and find themselves in a contradicting state, arguing with each other about how to kill or take care of the beast. Piggy then says that they are acting like animals and savages and that the order of the island is being lost. When Simon runs into the party screaming that the beast isn’t real, he instead himself is mistaken for the beast and is brutally murdered by the other boys. Golding’s book Lord of the Flies depicts the idea that there is no more hope left for mankind because of the loss of innocence, the clear destruction of society, and mankind’s inherent evil. The book shows small examples of how innocent boys can turn into savages through killing, violence, and lack of immaturity. But, there are many examples of man's inherent evil in the real world, like the Genocide in World War II, which took place on two continents, both Europe and Asia. Slavery, the enslavement of other human beings by torture and justifying it with the ideas of Superior and Inferior races. Most humans also have natural abilities to revert to a survival of the fittest sort of ideal when put in an intense
