Essential Traits Needed For Human Kind Expressed Through Lord Of The Flies “Man produces evil as a bee produces honey.” says William Golding, author of Lord Of The Flies. Lord Of The Flies reveals evil through the way the boys suppress each other and their augural surroundings. To have an open-mind means to be able to listen and comprehend others beliefs, religions, ideas and/or experiences.The narrator in Lord Of The Flies by Golding, says, “The world, that understandable and lawful world, was slipping away. Once there was this and that; and now - and the ship had gone.” Thus, elucidating a lack of open-mindedness, due to the narrator losing faith in escaping the treacherous and dangerous island. The characters predominately were not very open-minded but this quote paints an obvious picture of the boy's dehumanizing nature. Being open-minded is a very important trait, especially in tough situations, due to it being a helpful trait to resolve disagreement. Open-mindedness would’ve helped all the boys compromise their ideas and work together instead of feuding. If Jack and Ralph could’ve put their ideas together, all the boys could have survived and they eventually would get home. Jack doesn’t care for Piggy’s efforts, he just wants to be wild and free. The Narrator continues, “There was a moment's struggle and the glimmering conch jigged up and down” (91). This just shows Jack’s complete disregard for human kind and civilization. If Jack would have taken this opportunity to unite with Piggy and Ralph then all the destruction and devastation would’ve never happened. Jack represents evil in Lord Of The Flies. Throughout the novel Jack continues to aggressively target the boys who are trying to plead for unity. Those boys, Ralph, Piggy, and Simon represent a strong human kind and civilization. Communication, along with comprehension would’ve saved Jack and the other boys from the evil hidden inside
