A Raisin in the sun
The Younger’s new living room would have the same furniture as the old house, but arranged with the same taste as the house before. The furniture would look out of place from the rest of the house. The new house would have more windows than the last, but curtains would cover them except for one. Mama’s plant is in front of the open window and basking in the sunlight. The family would look even more tired and dreary than the earlier scenes.
Time: Two weeks after they finished moving in
At Rise: It is in the morning with Beneatha and Mama in the kitchen talking with Walter in the back.
Beneatha So, what do you think about me going to Africa with Asagai.
Mama Your to young to be going anywhere but school and home.

Walter You should marry the rich kid, George Murchison.
Beneatha George is nothing but a snobbish, assimilationist who doesn’t care about what I think or about my dreams.
Walter All that matters is that you marry someone rich.
Beneatha What do you have to do with this? Why are you telling me what to do after you lost all that money?
Walter It wasn’t my fault; it was that backstabbing Willy who took the money.
Beneatha It was your fault for trusting that crook in the first place.
Mama Just leave it alone, we don’t have nothing more to talk about it.
Beneatha But Mama, he threw away the money for nothing.
Mama I know, but it already happened. There is no point in bringing it back up again.
Walter Wait what time is it? I got to go to work or ill be late.
Mama You better get going because we need that money.
(Walter exits. Ruth enters)
Ruth What are y’all fussing

Beneatha Yeah, but we barely have enough leftover money to pay for food and other essentials.
Ruth All that matters is that we left that cockroach-infested nest that would have killed me if we didn’t leave soon.
Beneatha But, is this what you wanted? Did you ever imagine yourself working all day and night to pay for a house in a white neighborhood?
Mama This was the cheapest house that I could find that we could afford.
Beneatha You heard about that bombing that happened a few weeks ago. White folks did that, and we are now living in a white neighborhood that bribed us to stay out.
Ruth It doesn’t matter where we are living, as long as I get to keep this baby.
Beneatha What are you going to do about your job when you’re belly stats getting bigger, or when you actually have the baby?
Ruth We could figure it out when the time comes.
Beneath You better figure out a plan or else we might not be able to keep this house. Well I would love to talk more about his, but I got to get going to school.
(Beneath starts gathering her things and leaves)
Mama So Ruth, what are we going to do about the Travis? We can’t let him play outside and he has been extra jumpy
