Los Angeles, or sometimes referred to as the “City of Angles,” is the second largest city in the United States of America behind New York. In the Pacific state of California, Los Angeles is located down south next to neighboring cities Santa Monica and Pasadena. While its known for its year-round amazing weather and tourist attractions, Los Angeles is also known for being amongst the top cities with the largest economies in the United states. With its annual reported growth rate of 2%, LA can maintain its status of the second biggest city due to the wide array of industries it specializes in; some of those being entertainment, aerospace, technology, and tourism. Census bureau, Los Angeles is just one city of a total 88 cities in Los Angeles county. Meanwhile Los Angeles County along with neighboring Orange County make up the Los Angeles Metropolitan area. The Metropolitan area on the other hand has an area size of 4,850 square miles. The larger metropolitan area has many geographical features such as mountains, lakes, rivers, valleys, forests, islands, and deserts. LA was originally settled upon by the Tongva tribe prior to Spanish settlers. They chose LA because of the geographic river that ran through the land. The river provided fish, small mammals, acorns, and good farm land for the tribe. The Weather is another thing to point out in LA. LA ranks 2nd out of 180 cities in the STC climate index, making it an ideal place to live and work in. weather fluctuates from an average 50 degrees in the winter and an average of 80 degrees in the summer.As mentioned before, Los Angeles was first founded by the Tongva tribe in the precolonial period up to 1771. This tribe settled along what is now known as the Los Angeles river and used it for survival. After that the Spanish period lasted from 1771 to 1821 in which European colonial powers fortified and settled in the area in hopes of conquering North America. One industry that is prominent in Hollywood and shows agglomeration, is the music/entertainment industry. Agglomeration in an economy can be defined as firms or people that locate near one another looking to benefit from cost reductions and gains in efficiency from locating in close proximity. Looking at the map below you can see that the music industry is very clustered together with 20 or so firms all within one square mile of each other. All these studios feed off one another and attract lots of artist from around the world to come record in LA. Recording studios such as Paramount Recording Studio and Cascade Studios gives the area of Hollywood a big name for music and allows other smaller recording studios to join the area and use the large community of artist to boost their businesses. With all the recording studios clustered together, this allows for the shared inputs of artists, ideas, equipment, style, and
