“To gain something, you have to lose something,” this saying is one of the many lessons I have learned from a literary work; Romeo and Juliet. This is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare when he was young. He wrote about two young star-crossed lovers whose death were at high risk because of the hatred between their families. This play has romance, drama, and action. It took place in the streets of Verona and Matua of Italy between the thirteenth and fourteenth century. Romeo is the son of the Montagues and Juliet is the daughter of the Capulets. The Montagues and the Capulets were major families who were enemies. The saying has taught me an important lesson because I took things more for granted. It taught me that I shouldn’t just love where I gain it. In Romeo and Juliet, both lovers had to lose something in order to get something in return. They basically gave up their families for each other’s love. They risked each other’s lives to spend their life with one another. They didn’t think of the consequences and the things they had let go of. Their eager for each other made them forget who they were and where they come from. They forgot about their trust and loyalty to their family. For example, not breaking someone’s trust can lead to having them and their support for life. If Romeo and Juliet were honest and loyal to their family, they could’ve lived a happy loved life.
