An event that occurs in every story is a loss of a character. The losses of beloved characters in the stories Our Town written by Thornton Wilder and Sounder by William H. Armstrong affected the remaining characters in a way that we cannot explain. Father who was lost by the family supported the household and now that he is gone the boy will have to take care of the family. Emily and Wally Webb were two characters that were lost from the Webb family. Mrs. Gibbs deceased after George and Emily got married. These were the only children of the Webb family and they are now both gone. Without these characters in the stories it could play a huge role not only in the family but in the community.

The ending of the story Sounder includes a death from Father and the dog Sounder. Father supported the family throughout the story by catching possums or raccoons for the family to eat. After Father dies the family will have to adapt and learn to support themselves on a different way. The boy is going to school and getting an education. The last act is much different in that it contains death from many of the characters that lived in the first two acts. Emily George’s wife dies from giving birth to her second child. The child’s whole entire life is affected. The baby will never get to see his mother. That can hugely affect the children’s life and George’s life. George will have to support the kids without Emily being there to help. George will run the farm on his own from the point when Emily dies till he dies. Emily was the last of the Webb children to be living. Wally Webb her brother died on a boy scout trip. This is devastating for the family and they will have to live the rest of their lives with no
