Being clear-headed is a trait that will help in any type of survival situation. Making the correct decisions will help you survive, so being calm and clear-headed allows you to make the right choice and keep you from panicking. In the article “Lost In Death Valley” by Kristin Lewis, three women went on a vacation trip through Death Valley when suddenly their car stopped. As it allows you to have the ability to wait for the right opportunity which gives you more determination. “Lost in Death Valley” by Kristin Lewis, allows us to see that the three women had patience to wait at the abandoned campsite for help. “...the women prepared for another night...a helicopter flying straight toward them.” (9). Rainsford from “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, is in hiding and is waiting for the right moment to strike his trap, “He lived a year in a minute...the pit gave way.” (14). Finally in the film Castaway by Robert Zemeckis, Chuck Noland is explaining his time on the island and that he needed to stay alive to get back home and that he would have to wait for that time to come “...I gotta keep breathing. Because tomorrow the sun will rise. Who knows what the tide could bring?” (Hanks, Castaway). Each person given the circumstances had patience and survived. They were able to wait for help, wait for the right moment to release a trap, or to wait for that point in time to realize you have to keep living. Patience will keep you alive in a survival situation by allowing yourself to wait and give you the willpower to keep moving
