Here is proof that he has been involved in the MLB for many years and he has experienced the life while having so many supporters backing him. Another good example of this would be, “When the New York Giants, a team you would give your right arm to beat, and vice versa, sends you a gift - that's something” (Gehrig). That is what is so different about this speech but what also makes it so relatable. It feels as if Lou Gehrig is just speaking to you from the heart. He did not have someone type this out, or prompt him. The speech came from the heart. It is short, sweet, and to the point. The repetition of phrases such as, “I’m lucky” and “that’s something” makes this speech one of the more genuine speeches. It is a wonderful farewell address as opposed to many other athletes who retire. Most go out either throwing a fit or bashing on others who have held them back. Lou’s speech is nothing but respectable and admirable. Take Michael Jordan for example, his story is known by every sports fan in America.
