In Unbroken the character Louie Zamperini at the beginning of the story is a juvenile delinquent and he ravages the town by stealing pies and looting unsuspecting stores. When Louis developes, he harnesses his athletic abilities and focuses on track, long distance running. He began as a sprinter and finishes last almost all the time, but then he discovers distance. He immediately becomes an established runner and is the best on the team. After Louie graduates, he becomes a track star in college. After countless hours of trainingand running, Louie obtains the opportunity to compete for a spot in the Olympics. Zamperini is very competitive and trains all the time, striving for excellence. His running abilities take him all around the world, one competition took place in Germany which foreshadows the setting World War II.
Throughout Zamperini's life, he always gains greatness. In Louie’s childhood he was a criminal, but through a turn of events he matured into an Olympian. I believe Zamperini’s inclination was to be the best. His family was poor they never lived the life of luxury. To compensate he became a thief. Louie later transformed. Louie wanted to make his family proud. When Louie found something he excelled at he took advantage of it and cultivated that skill. He

Louie always tries to be the best and he continues to beat world records, some of which had been established decades in the past. Louie always pushes human limits. Whether that be completing a final lap in 50 seconds, or concluding a race where he was critically injured. Louie was so successful and full of perseverance that he is an idol to many today. His willpower, and “can do” attitude show he has grit and that he can do whatever he puts his mind too. Many great runners today look up to him because of how talented, successful, and disciplined Louie Zamperini
