On May 20, 1885, Louis Riel was hung by the order of John A Macdonald for high treason. He was arrested when he ordered a military resistance that became a military confederation called the North-west Rebellion. This was when Ottawa sent thousands of Combat soldiers on their new railway to fight against Louis Riel’s military resistance, he had later been arrested and convicted.

Most people today believe he was a hero, but that is false. When British North America became a colonized country (Canada) they took over Rupert’s land and made it government-owned land where Louis Riel was living. William McDougall (who was the new governor of the area) did not like French people and did not want them on the land. Louis Riel disagreed with what William McDougall was doing. He had his men arrest members of the pro-Canadian faction who had resisted the provisional government. Since Thomas Scott was one of the men arrested, Louis Riel had ordered his government to execute Thomas Scott. Thomas Scott was innocent, and Louis Riel decided that his government should take Thomas Scott and executed him. Louis Riel ran away to the colonies knowing that the government wanted him prosecuted for his actions. He later came back to Saskatchewan, and he ordered a military resistance that became a military confederation called the North-west Rebellion.
