Louis XIV, also known as the Sun King, was the King of France from 1643 to 1715. He was one of the most powerful and influential rulers of France and is best known for his long reign and his role in shaping the French monarchy. He oversaw the construction of the Palace of Versailles, which became the center of French political and cultural life. Louis XIV was a patron of the arts, and he is credited with supporting and promoting the development of ballet in France.
