Louisa Alcott, or Louisa May Alcott, is an American author. Alcott was an author from the iconic transcendentalist movement from the 1800ths. On a broader note, America has flourished with many talented authors. From poets like Emily Dickinson, to authors like J.K. Rowling. Many of the poems, books, and even stories we read today were written by America’s best writers. In a different perspective, many women have changed history- some have reigned, some have sung, and some have written best sellers, but do you know the woman behind Little Women? Upon her return from England in 1866, she finished and released the first part of Little Women two years later on September 30, partially because her family was in debt again. The first part of the book hit the market in 1866. The commercial success made Alcott and her family rich, The Alcott’s no longer had to worry about the nightmare that tortured them. The instant success surprised her and her publishers. The first book sold 6,000 copies, and 4.000 orders were placed for the next part. Part two of Little Women was released 6 weeks after part one, and it was released with little revision. After the release of the complete book, both halves, 13,000 copies were now in print! At the end of the year, 1869, 38.000 copies were sold! Little Women was and still is a classic. The book itself was traduced into 50 different languages and has never been out of print ever since. The follow-up story, An Old Fashioned Girl sold 27.000 copies. This too was a large success, she was outselling the times best sellers. She topped and surpassed many writers then and now. (Smith,
